Free festival of discovery returns to Bristol and Bath

By Bristol24/7  Thursday Sep 12, 2019

Would you like to discover how robots will affect our future? Find out how vaccines work or how to make objects levitate? Or maybe explore the connections between science and art. If so then FUTURES 2019 is for you.

Now in its second year FUTURES is a festival of discovery offering two days of free events at venues across Bristol and Bath on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 September.

From hands on science demos and experiments at We The Curious, to escape rooms and trails aboard Brunel’s SS Great Britain, a guided walk with a difference around Bath and a pop-up party with science busking and stand up at BRLSI – FUTURES promises a bumper weekend of activities with something for everyone.

The festival is part of European Researchers’ Night, an annual event, funded by the EU Commission. This year Bristol and Bath will be among more than 300 cities in 30 European countries taking part in the event.

The festival gives visitors the chance to explore the past, create the present and imagine the future
alongside scientists, engineers and historians from the region’s universities as they lead hands on,
interactive activities and demos in venues across both cities.

Suzanne Wright, FUTURES Project Coordinator from University of Bristol said: “We’re very excited to bring FUTURES to Bristol and Bath again this year and have the opportunity to host events in some of the South West’s most iconic venues. Not only is FUTURES set to be a lot of fun but we also get to share and celebrate the amazing and diverse research taking place across the city and region.

“All of the events have been created to give people the opportunity to explore how current research is shaping our future. It’s also a chance for our younger visitors to find out just how exciting and varied a career in research can be. There will be something for everyone, young and old, and we’re looking forward to a busy, entertaining and inspiring weekend.”

All events are completely FREE (including entry to venues) but most are ticketed and places are limited. For a full list of events taking place over the weekend and to reserve your tickets visit www.futures2019.co.uk
