Mother’s Day campaign raises mental health awareness

By Ruby Lopez  Friday Mar 20, 2020

Bristol is supporting new mothers by posting cards containing words of encouragement to mums who might be feeling isolated in the early days of motherhood.

The #HeyMum campaign launches just in time for Mother’s Day,  with Red Letter Days placing letterboxes art Bristol Aquarium and Windmill Hill City Farm.

People can get involved by writing a thoughtful message to an anonymous new mum, and post it in one of Red Letter Days’ letter boxes in an unsealed envelope.

Hannah Worrall, from Bristol Aquarium, says: “It is wonderful to be able to provide a platform for parents to support one another. With so many parents of young children visiting the aquarium everyday we know this thoughtful campaign will resonate and we hope that those who need the support feel it.”

“One of our missions at Windmill Hill City Farm is to support our local community, including the many mums who come to visit,” adds Claire Heywood, from Windmill Hill City Farm.

One in five new mothers experiencing pre or postnatal mental health problems, and 56 per cent of parents with children under five admitting to experiencing loneliness. The #HeyMum initiative launched by experience gift company Red Letter Days and maternal mental health charity PANDAS encourages mums to take part in this act of solidarity and support each other.

Bristol Aquarium and Windmill Hill City Farm are still open, but for those unable to make it to one of the post box locations, post the card to ‘Red Letter Days Campaign, c/o Keyboards & Dreams, Ground Floor, 34-35 Hatton Garden, EC1N 8DX’, where a member of the Red Letter Days team will keep it safe and deliver it.
