Six springtime spots to explore with your family

By Jess Connett  Friday Mar 8, 2019

Make the most of the warmer weather at these six family-friendly outdoor spaces around Bristol.

You’ll smell the wild garlic before you find it carpeting Badock’s Wood. While you’re looking for it, keep an out for the spectacular wood carvings.

Daffodils grow in huge numbers in the sunken gardens behind Ashton Court Mansion. It’s a great place for riding bikes on the traffic-free paths too – visit the ice cream van as a reward for getting up the hills.

Watch the crocuses turn their heads towards the sun in Queen Square. From here you’re close to all the amenities of the city centre, including the ferry stop on Welsh Back.

Victoria Park’s flowerbeds are some of the brightest in the city. Enjoy the views from high up on the hill and walk down the footpath past St Mary Redcliffe Primary School to find even more spring flowers at Windmill Hill City Farm.

Brandon Hill is full of cherry trees with their pretty pink and white blossom. Bring some peanuts and feed the squirrels too.

Bluebells grow in the woods all along the Frome Valley Walkway. Hunt for them at Oldbury Court Estate, where you’ll also find a big play area.
