‘Stick Man’ trail launched at Windmill Hill City Farm
Sitting cross-legged on the floor of the cafe at Windmill Hill City Farm, a group of preschoolers listened intently to Stick Man by Julia Donaldson.
Most of the children were grasping their own small Stick Man that they had made themselves.

Children use maps to find activity boards hidden around the farm
Windmill Hill City Farm is the first place in England to host a new outdoor activity trail that hopes to encourage children to get outdoors and explore the natural world.
The initiative is part of a national campaign called Local Heroes, which aims to get more people involved with their local community growing groups, such as city farms.
Armed with their maps, the children went on their own adventures to find the brightly coloured boards located around the farm – with a six-foot Stick Man welcoming visitors on their arrival.
“We’re really happy we were chosen as part of this pilot scheme,” said Simone Dougall from Windmill Hill City Farm.
“Stick Man is hugely popular with young children so we’re expecting a great deal of interest from families and we’re hoping the trail will also draw in new visitors who’ll appreciate and support the work we do at the farm.”
The trail will be running until at least the end of the year.
