The Bristol brand raising money for Black mental health

By Safiya Bashir  Monday Oct 25, 2021

A local clothing brand has launched a new t-shirt, where all profits will go towards Black Minds Matter UK.

Young Goat is a brand created by a group of friends at the University of Bristol, who wanted to inspire confidence and improve self-esteem through their clothing.

“We would often use the acronym, ‘GOAT’ (Greatest of All Time), as a compliment to recognise each other’s achievements. We soon began to see first-hand the positive effects it was having on people. It fostered this collective positivity and it was a great environment to be a part of,” explains Arthur Leventhorpe, who is one of the founders of the brand.

Clothing includes t-shirts and hoodies, as well as previously stocking fleeces and hats. The brand also champions positive mental health and their new campaign aims to raise £10,000 for Black Minds Matter UK.

Young Goat has released a new t-shirt, designed by Sofia Lucarelli, where all profits will be doing towards the charity that connects black individuals and families with free mental health services.

Arthur wanted to take action after his friend and colleague Olisa Odukwe lost his battle with mental health at just 20 years old.

“Oli loved Young Goat and bought basically every item. He was such a good person, so dedicated and loyal and a friend to every member. Losing Oli emphasised just how important this initiative is and it massively invigorated our desire to make it a huge success.”

“The purple heart on the t-shirt sleeve was added in his memory, an addition that we made due to his love for UK rapper Dave and his song Purple Heart.”

“The pandemic has been extremely tough for a lot of people mentally and financially, so the fact Black Minds Matter UK is offering free mental health services at a time when so many need it but may not be able to afford it is really great.”

To support the cause, you can buy the t-shirt here, where 100 per cent of the profits will go towards Black Minds Matter UK. You can also support via the link here.
