Milliners’ Guild exhibit at Queen’s birthday party
With any royal event, whether it is a wedding, service or show, a recognised feature among those who attend are the spectacular hats – the bolder the better, it seems.
By invitation from the British Embassy in Italy, Bristol’s only dedicated hat shop, Milliners’ Guild, will exhibit the work of 12 British milliners in Naples and Rome throughout June as part of the Queen’s birthday celebrations. The handmade pieces that will be showcased were selected through an open contest from entries across Britain. Those who were selected derive from an array of backgrounds but share a common flare of millinery which, ultimately, awarded them with the chance to get their work exhibited.

Milliners’ Guild is Bristol’s only dedicated hat shop
Founded in 2013, Milliners’ Guild prides itself on stocking high-quality British-made millinery as well as guiding both beginner and experienced milliners in their work. They also encourage environmentally sustainable fashion and endeavour to maintain a zero-waste policy by reusing materials for their works, which have been used in stage and screen productions including Thriller, The Lion King, Poldark and Call the Midwife.
is needed now More than ever
Ani Stafford-Townsend, founder of Milliners’ Guild said: “It’s an honour to have been invited to take part in this event, and it really shows how hats are becoming increasingly popular again; especially with the recent royal wedding. We’ve been impressed with the submissions we’ve received, and will be delighted to showcase the variety and strength of British milliners.”
Whilst exhibiting the work of the 12 contest winners, Ani Stafford-Townsend will also hold a discussion and demonstration of millinery for the estimated 3000 guests who will attend the event during June, including members of Parliament, journalists and senior UN officials.
