Miss Mama brings super sassy fashion wigs to Bristol
Katie Louise Dyer is a self-confessed wig addict. So much so, that she founded Miss Mama Wigs.
“Wigs are low maintenance, fun and versatile,” says Katie. “My interest in wigs has been a natural and gradual thing.
“Being mixed race and having a black-Caribbean mum has meant I’ve been exposed to weaves and wigs from a young age. Afro-Caribbean hair is high maintenance and we like to preserve it and take care of it and wigs are just one way of protecting your natural hair.”
is needed now More than ever
Mixing salon training, higher education courses and self-taught techniques, Katie has managed to turn her passions and knowledge for wig making from a hobby to a full-time job.

Made from 100 per cent human hair, Miss Mama Wigs range in colour from light pastels to rainbow ombres and platinum blondes.
The wigs range in price from £170 to £275, with various styles available and are all handmade by Katie.
“I’m new to Bristol and have developed good relationships with the Afro-Caribbean wig shops here but I really feel people need to know about my wigs,” says Katie.
“They are creative, colourful and carefully customised. I really get to understand my client’s needs and I try my best to go that extra mile for them. If you want finer hair, I’ll use less hair, but if you prefer a thicker mane, then I’ll add more. I like to play around with colours too, I’m very pastel and neon obsessed at the moment.
“Most importantly, I try and make the wigs look as perfectly blended to your scalp as possible. I want the wig to look like your own hair.”
Creating wigs isn’t enough for Katie however, who shares her skills through wig making courses. From classes lasting five hours to the more intense courses aimed at those wanting to become a wig-making expert.
“I love the courses,” Katie enthuses. “They are hands on and taught on a one to one basis. By the end of it a student will know how to make a wig and can then start showcasing them to the world.”

Following her move from London to Bristol eight months ago, Katie works from her small home studio in St Anne’s, with plans to create a e-commerce platform and eventually open a salon once she has built up her clientele.
“I always have clients coming in and out,” says Katie. “I love meeting them because I can truly understand their needs and I’m always intrigued to understand their challenges when buying wigs, to improve the service I give
“I have a whole spectrum – from hair-loss clients to women just wanting to change their look without using dyes or peroxide. Hair and wigs go hand in hand really, people want their wigs to resemble natural hair as best as possible”.
Katie says of the latest hair trends: “We are going to see baby short bangs and lots of fun colours, from pastel ombres to bright solids and the wet look is still going to be popular this summer!”
“Bristol oozes creativity, confidence and vibrancy. I’m always seeing people with eye catching swag and my wigs fit that brief exactly. When someone wears a wig from Miss Mama, they suddenly feel uber confident and sassy and that attitude definitely has a place in Bristol!”
