Upcycling at the Sue Ryder charity store
The Sue Ryder shop on Park street isn’t just a charity shop. From a newly sourced vintage collection of winter fashion to upcycled clothing and work experience opportunities, this shop has a lot more to offer than simply pre-loved garms.
Based in a prime location, this Sue Ryder store offers pre-loved fashion gems while supporting slow fashion – all at reasonable prices, ranging from £7 for pre-loved trainers to £35 for vintage faux furs.

“Our new winter range consists of a variety of jackets including faux furs, bombers and puffers with plenty of knitted woolly jumpers, scarves, bags and leather boots,” says shop manager Lottie Millard.
“The faux fur jackets are really popular alongside printed t-shirts and vintage jumpers. Our bestselling pre-loved pieces are probably our trainers.”
Lottie Millard, the shop manager at Sue Ryder on Park Street is looking for keen upcyclers to share their skills.
Despite a rise in vintage shopping, there is still a stigma attached to charity shopping, but Lottie hopes that this will change, saying: “The variety of old and new garments that you can find in charity shopping is such a vast range, this makes it even more fun shopping!
“You will also have a more unique style buying from a charity shop rather than high street stores such as Topshop and H&M and will save hundreds on your usual monthly outgoings on clothes.
“More importantly, you are helping the planet to become healthy again.”
Lottie comes from a varied fashion background with experience in working as a buyer for Topshop and running vintage fashion business Mumani Vintage with her mum. She uses her knowledge of high street fast fashion and her love for sustainable, vintage fashions to run the charity shop.

As Sue Ryder strive to reuse more of their donated fashion pieces and help save more items from landfill, this Sue Ryder shop has also created an upcycled range that is available that cost £10 to £25.
“The range is made from garments that we would normally rag, creating something new out of something old”, explains Lottie. “We have denim patchwork tote bags, trousers, cropped tops and sweaters, that are re-created for us by volunteers.”
They are now looking for more volunteers to use the sewing station that the store have created to help extend the range.
“Volunteering gives you the opportunity to gain a lot of retail experience, it looks great on your CV too.” continues Lottie. “You also get staff discount on such an awesome selection of clothes and to work with a wonderful team. Everyone is welcome to volunteer here and you will gain knowledge that will help you with a future career in fashion.”
