‘I want to empower people to feel great in their bodies’
“I started For The Love of Movement (FLTOM) because I genuinely believe everybody and every body loves to move,” says founder of new online fitness and yoga classes, Kate Kieran.
“I want to use FTLOM to empower people to feel great in their bodies, regardless of shape, size or fitness level. That fitness and yoga are not exclusive and that there is space for everyone.”
Kate, an events manager for multiple festivals, including Glastonbury Festival and Boomtown, founded FTLOM as the start of lockdown in March, when festival plans started to fall away.

The fitness teacher had been leading a number of different classes part time since leaving a ten year career with some of the UK’s leading circuses, but decided to make it a full time project once all her other work stopped.
Described as having “enjoyment, playfulness and empowerment at it’s core, with some pretty great playlists to boot”, Kate offers classes throughout the week.

FTLOM is a mix of HIIT workouts, flow yoga, pilates, ballet and drum ‘n’ bass workout sessions.
“When your body is moving, dancing, jumping, running you feel amazing. The mental health benefits of regular exercise are insurmountable as well as the obvious and more often discussed physical benefits,” says Kate, who wants everyone to feel welcome to her classes, regardless of shape, size or fitness level.
“During the last lockdown we saw a serious decline in people’s mental health so I want to provide a little explosion of endorphins during each class to help people keep their spirits up during this incredibly difficult time.”
Since her classes already run online, class regulars are not only from Bristol, but also Portugal, Germany, Cornwall and Ireland, the fitness teacher is prepared for the second lockdown.

“I have actually found such a love for online teaching that I am going to continue to run my classes as I have since last lockdown,” Kate says. “It’s been amazing reaching people with my workouts that I just never could have before.
“I want to keep going exactly as we did through the last one, by providing playful workout classes for every body and every level. Hopefully we will just get stronger and stronger, welcoming more people into our super supportive online community, one squat at a time!”
Classes cost from £3 to £5, and Kate is even looking at bringing FTLOM to festivals once they can safely return.
For now, she’s happy providing an inclusive range of workouts for people in Bristol and far beyond.

“I wanted to provide a different type of exercise experience by moving away from the constant association we see everywhere of fitness and aesthetics,” she says.
“We are fed this idea that fitness and diet culture have to go hand in hand and I fully reject that. I want to use FTLOM to empower people to feel great in their bodies, regardless of shape, size or fitness level. Fitness and yoga are not exclusive and that there is space for everyone.”
