New gym opens in Emersons Green

By Lowie Trevena  Monday Nov 11, 2019

Spanning 2.3 hectares, David Lloyd Clubs’ newest opening in Emersons Green is a sight to behold.

The fitness centre, located next to Lyde Green Park & Ride, is impressive and all-inclusive. Having taken 43 weeks to build, it boasts four tennis courts (three inside an eco-friendly tent structure and one outside), a multi-use court space, spa, sauna, four swimming pools and a gym covering the entirety of the building’s first floor.

The centre has three indoor tennis courts and one outside, next to the open-air pool

The gym has state-of-the-art equipment

As well as fitness and wellbeing, the building also houses two playrooms for children, a restaurant and bar and indoor and outdoor play frames.

“It’s a real multipurpose space,” says Jack Phillips, the general manager of the new gym.

The new David Lloyd opening hopes to be a workplace (there are even standing desks with charging points), a place to socialise and somewhere for families to go, as well as being a top-quality fitness centre.

But this quality comes at a price. A basic membership costs £66 a month, has limited access to the facilities and can only be enjoyed at specific times.

A ‘Club Plus’ membership, which still has limited access, allows members to use facilities whenever the club is open – 6am to 10.30pm on weekdays and 6.30am to 10pm at weekends.

The ‘Club Platinum’ membership, at £129, the highest option available, gives members access to an indoor and outdoor spa, racquets and Blaze, a high-octane gym experience.

It could certainly be for some, with even the most expensive monthly membership coming in at a lower price than some coworking spaces.

The children’s area includes two play rooms, soft play and an education tablet

The spa and sauna are available to ‘Club Platinum’ members

A multipurpose space is what the people behind the new club are aiming for, with Jack saying: “We want it to be a place where people can spend a day with their kids, meet friends for a drink and work. We even have a business lounge so people can make important phone calls.”

David Lloyd Clubs’ 100th fitness centre is certainly an all-rounder – there aren’t many places in the city where you can try over ten different gins and have access to personal trainers at the top of their game.

The new gym is located at Willherb Road, Emersons Road, BS16 7PF. More information can be found at www.davidlloyd.co.uk/clubs/emersons-green
