A startup business with mental wellness in mind
A new mental wellness company is using the power of superfoods to help customers “live their best journey”
No Ordinary Moments, a nutrition company based in Clifton, launched in August 2020 – during the height of the pandemic.
Founder Chris Baker had the idea for the business while he was working in San Francisco.
“I was addicted to work, junk food, social media, and caffeine, chugging five to six double espressos and bulletproof coffees a day,” says the 31-year-old.
“I wanted to get to the bottom of why I was so unhappy and anxious all the time, despite landing my dream job, living in the most beautiful city in the world and having a wonderful set of friends and family around me.”

He adds: “It was when I started to experiment with food through a day to day performance and happiness lens that I started to realise just how powerful nutrition is and how it all starts there with how you look after your body and mind.”
The inspiration behind the name for Chris was about mindfulness: “When we start to look closely at our attachments and addictions and are able to identify with them, we can start to slowly let go and not hold on to them with such a clenched fist. Being aware of these takes time and the only way I found to identify with them is through meditation.
“It is through this, that I came to realize that there are “no ordinary moments”, the magic is right in front of us.”
Chris says his vast experience with different diets led him to create his plant-based protein powder. Plant Protein+ uses hemp, pumpkin, and chia seeds and is organic, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, non-GMO, with no sweeteners or artificial flavours.”
The powder is “designed to help you build lean muscle, reduce cravings and boost your energy.”
As well as Plant Protein+ powder, No Ordinary Moments provide live free meditation sound baths once a month and are currently working on a coffee alternative based product.
No Ordinary Moments has been formed by building on the advice of other Bristol startups. Chris says Elsa Valentine, the founder of Innate Food, “taught me all about the food industry and creating a powerful brand from within”.
It was also Chris’s love of Banksy’s artwork that helped him realise he wanted “to combine my love for art and food for a long time.”

“Whether you are in a business, starting out as an entrepreneur or a professional athlete, to succeed, create value for the world or define your own version of success, it takes an amazing team around you,” says Chris. “You cannot do it alone.”
“We deeply believe that everyone can achieve anything when they slow down, get back to being present and get out of their own way and attachments.”
