Fresh Arts festival returns to Southmead
Southmead Hospital will welcome choirs, writers, artists and dancers for its second community Fresh Arts Festival on September 18 and 19.
The two-day event aims to highlight the role that the arts and creativity play in supporting healthcare, as well as giving people an insight into the projects that patients, staff and volunteers have been involved with inside the hospital and the local community as part of the North Bristol NHS Trust Fresh Arts programme.
Plans for the festival include the unveiling of a large art installation created by local knitters, a poetry workshop with writer-in-residence Sue Mayfield, and calligraphy and origami sessions held by students from the University of Tsukaba in Japan.
is needed now More than ever
Choirs from surrounding schools, workplaces and Southmead itself will perform inside the Brunel building across the two days, alongside an impressive show from local troupe the Concorde Wheelchair Dancers.
NHS Trust director of nursing Sue Jones says: “Last year’s festival was a fantastic event and so inspiring. It brought a real sense of community to the hospital and was so beneficial for patients. We’ve designed the hospital to be a healing environment, and the arts programme has made that personal for people. It is great to be able to invite people in and show them what we do as part of the festival.”
