Go Dad Run tonight at Greville Smyth Park

By Helen Martin  Wednesday Jun 10, 2015

A 5km fun run for men and boys in aid of Prostate Cancer UK will take place later today, at Greville Smyth Park. Swimming legend and star of Strictly Come Dancing Mark Foster will be opening the run.

Sanlam’s Go Dad Run is the brainchild of three-time world champion hurdler Colin Jackson and aims to raise awareness of men’s health issues and specifically funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

Created by Colin in 2013 and inspired by the success of Race For Life, this year Go Dad Run has expanded to include in six locations around the UK.

The series kicked off in Llangefni on June 7th with events following in Worcester (June 14th), Warrington (June 14th), Bristol (June 18) with the final two runs taking place on Father’s Day (June 21st) in Bute Park, Cardiff and Southwark Park, London.

One in eight men in the UK will develop prostate cancer and that rises to one in four men of a black African/Caribbean background and Colin decided to found the project after two of his uncles developed it and only one, the uncle who talked about it and sought early treatment, survived.

Entry fees are £15 for adults and £10 for 11-17 year olds and all runners get a pair of the light-hearted Sanlam Blue Yfronts and a PUMA tshirt when they arrive on the day, and then when they cross the finish line they are handed a medal and a Big Yellow Goodie Bag, which is also a small sportsbag.
