Bristol is one of the largest cities in the UK and has a birth-rate to match its ever-increasing population. Over 6,400 births are recorded in the city every year, and this figure multiplies once you extend outside the core city.

In short lots of babies are born, yet with the growth of online shopping meaning the closure of amazing nursery shops (does anyone remember Hurwoods in Old Market – perhaps the most famous in the UK), parents have found it harder and harder to get professional advice.

This trend has of course been the same across the country, but most areas have benefited from regular baby consumer shows, the exception being Bristol and the South-West.

Enter one Duncan Zanker of Trendybaby in Clevedon, who put together a team of professionals from across the globe to launch the new Pregnancy2baby Show. It takes place at the UWE Exhibition & Conference Centre the weekend of October 14 – 15.

If you have not had the pleasure to visit the venue which is just marginally smaller than Olympia’s Grand Hall you will be in a for a treat as it boasts on-site parking, a café and restaurant; not to forget numerous seminar rooms ideal for talks & demonstrations.

“Local parents had to travel to London to attend a consumer baby show” said Duncan, “but they considered the journey they made to be worthwhile because they not only got first hand expert advice but invariably came back with lots of bargains as well. The negative was the fight to get to Excel or Olympia which can take hours and have horrendous cost implications. Clearly these costs impacted on the value of the trip and I wanted to bring a great show to Bristol that either matched or beat the numerous London based consumer shows.

The reaction from potential exhibitors was positive from the outset and in fact many have said that because the exhibiting costs in Bristol is just one third of the London equivalent, local consumers will reap the benefit of show prices cheaper than the capital”.

“Putting together a show is not easy”, said Duncan, “but we have exhibitors showing a range of products and services from baby scanning and antenatal classes to feeding and pushchairs.

Many of the exhibitors come from the South-West and are relieved that a show is being launched in Bristol. In fact, we found two Bristol based businesses Rosie Letts Nutrition and New Life Antenatal Classes who were considering putting on their own local show because they could see the obvious need for new parents.

We have all the big brands on the pushchair side of things including Silver Cross, Bugaboo, Mamas & Papas – not forgetting perhaps the UK’s top trending pushchair Egg. There are great competitions and prizes including a new pram, free goody bags, and a fantastic range of talks from some of the top UK experts.”

Already billed as a success by the exhibitors another Pregnancy2baby Show is in the pipeline for June 2 – 3 next year.
