November is the month of the man

By Emma Woodward  Tuesday Nov 10, 2015

November is the month of the man, hosting International Men’s Day (November 19) and the ever popular Movember. From two Aussie buddies coining the campaign over a pint back in 2003 to a global annual fundraising phenomenon, Movember has seriously taken off.

Men busily preparing themselves to grow their moustaches should consider attending MoRunner events (5k and 10k runs) and using the hashtag #movember in order to raise funds and awareness for men’s health, including prostate and testicular cancer, mental health and physical inactivity.

Such is Movember’s popularity, it has spawned numerous imitation campaigns, for example Stoptober, which has just suceeded in helping thousands quit smoking for October, and Dry January. We’ll see how that goes.

It’s now easier than ever for Bristol men to engage in such a feat as Movember seeing as the moustache, along with the beard, is oh so very trendy these days.

So all of you bearded (and not so bearded) blokes out there, how about raising some money for a great cause by simply not having to tame your facial locks for an entire month? Surely that’s a win-win?

Get involved in some of the events below:

November 14: Bristol MoRunners
5k and 10k runs at Ashton Gate with fancy dress encouraged – even from women (MoSisters).

November 19: International Men’s Day
The day focuses on men and boy’s health and has been running since the nineties.

November 30: The Movember Closing Party, Walkabout
Celebrating the end of the month of fundraising with free entry for anyone with a moustache.
