Lunges at dawn with Project Awesome
Getting up at the crack of dawn cycling from my home in Brislington to the city centre in the dark is definitely a struggle for my half-asleep, groggy brain.
But once the music gets going and everyone begins bouncing around, before you know it, the sun is up and you’re hot, sweaty and happy.
Project Awesome, a free community workout, makes sure that if you weren’t quite awake at the start of an hour-long exercise class beginning at 6.30am, you’ll definitely be awake by the end.
is needed now More than ever
The tribe are out twice a week, come rain or shine, at the Lloyds Amphitheatre and Brandon Hill, with occasional trips to the Bearpit, and have recently celebrated their one year anniversary.
If the many burpees, lunges, squats and sprints don’t limber you up, an interlude of free-style shape throwing will sort you out and loosen up the joints.
There are no stressful boot camp vibes here; everyone comes because they want to be there. And looking around during my morning with the crew, everyone appears to be enjoying themselves.
So, if like me, you find running on a treadmill whilst hopelessly staring at a wall insanely boring, then this group is definitely for you.
Its mixture of exercise, fun and silliness takes the strain away from normally arduous tasks like squatting, for example.
Prepare yourself for hugging, hi-fives and achy muscles. With nothing to pay, you’ve got nothing to lose (except sleep, but who needs that!).
