Sharing coronavirus advice in more than 10 languages
Volunteers from across Bristol have come together with Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (BNSSG CCG) to create a series of coronavirus advice videos in more than ten languages.
With an aim to make essential information about Covid-19 accessible to more people, local volunteers helped make short videos, ranging from information on mental health support to protecting others from the virus.
The videos were recorded by people from different communities in Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, Bengali, Farsi, Kurdish, Pashto, Turkish, Punjabi and Somali, in addition to English.
is needed now More than ever
The videos can be found on BNSSG CCG’s YouTube channel and being shared among communities speaking each language.
“The pandemic is an uncertain time and it is essential that everyone has access to reliable information from a trusted source,” says David Soodeen, who works as a GP and is also a clinical lead for mental health at the BNSSG CCG.
Soodeen adds: “We were concerned that there were a significant number of people, and some whole communities that had little or no access to accurate, consistent and culturally appropriate information in a language that they can speak or read and were therefore under-informed and excluded.
“It’s really important that language is not a barrier to people getting the right information which is why we wanted to make these videos. We would like to thank all of the volunteers who have given their time to make them so that others can benefit from them.”
