The free meditation app ‘made for people not profit’
The founders of Medito, an app created to help people cope better with lockdown vow to make meditation freely accessible.
The app, launched in April 2020 by the Medito Foundation, was created by an army of worldwide volunteers who share the same goal: to positively transform lives.
Many have suffered with low mental health during the country’s second national lockdown due to Covid-19.
is needed now More than ever
The founders of the foundation are four Stoke Gifford-based friends, including Gareth Yorke, who set out to make a difference without cost.
“We believe this kind of resource should not be restricted to those who can afford a monthly subscription,” Romain Sourdiaux, chair of the Medito Foundation Board says. “The app will always be free for everyone.”
Since its release it has been downloaded more than 350,000 times. Volunteers translated the meditation content into Spanish, Portuguese, German, Arabic, Dutch, Turkish, French, Hindi and Italian.
A Scientific Advisory Board was recruited to produce mental health resources that are in line with the latest scientific thinking, and a Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Board was hired to ensure the content is relevant to all.

Medito Foundation believes mental health resources should never be behind a paywall and aims to free meditation from the clutches of big business.
The app prides itself as having no subscription fees, paywalls or ads. This compares to its competitors, charging monthly fees of up to £25.
“We believe that mindfulness is an extremely important tool that can change people’s lives.” Sourdiaux says.
“Studies have shown that it can reduce anxiety and stress, enhance cognition, attention and memory, improve general well-being and a lot more.”

Filled with plentiful content, Medito includes guided meditation sections on “sleep”, “anxiety/stress”, “mantra” and “loving kindness” to name but a few.
It contains a “work-life pack” to help find success at work, and an entire section focused on helping its users through the coronavirus pandemic.
In its “emergency pack” are the guided tools to overcome anger, fear, grief, panic or stress.
It offers an ‘intermediate course’ for those wanting to continue on their meditation journey, and a ‘beginner course’ suitable for those fresh-faced to meditation.
For challenge-seekers, its “January meditation challenge” contains daily ten-minute sessions.
Medito is available to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
