Bringing colour to Easton

By Lowie Trevena  Friday Jun 5, 2020

An artist in Easton has painted a mural to brighten up her street.

Painted on the wall outside her home, Sophie Rae created the mural to add some colour to the area.

A self-employed mural painter, printmaker and workshop facilitator, all of Sophie’s work was cancelled or postponed for the foreseeable future in mid-March.

Sophie, who is currently working from home, released that this was a great time to add some artistic flair to her garden wall.

“I’ve always wanted to paint this wall on the front/side of my house but have never had the time to prioritise it,” Sophie says. “This has been the perfect time.

“I was really missing painting and couldn’t wait to start putting paint on a wall again, so was very grateful to have this blank canvas to work on and I wanted to create something bright, cheery and uplifting for the street to enjoy during these difficult and uncertain times.

“It helped me focus my mind on something positive.”

Sophie, who has worked on mural projects at the BRI, Shirehampton Primary School, Mokoko and Southern Brooks, has been receiving positive feedback from all who pass by the mural.

The artist doesn’t currently have any plans to paint any more of her walls, but is using lockdown to plan for the future, developing her prints into repeating patterns and creating a collection of surface pattern designs.
