Designing and decorating your home to look good does not have to be expensive. It’s all too easy to overfill our rooms with bright, colourful soft furnishings and fun objects. Decluttering is the ideal start to any room makeover. Posters, outdated decorations, worn things that you “could fix” but won’t, board games, and other odds and ends. If you have not used it in the last 6-months, then donate it to a charity shop or recycle it.

Chairs, pillows, rugs, pictures, and throws can be used in any room, and by moving them around you can give a room a whole new look.
Use Your Imagination
The best way to design a room is to use your imagination. Don’t try to overbalance things. Regardless of what your mother told you, you do not need the big piece in the centre and a small one on either side. Mix patterns, colours and textures. Be unique.
Your room is like a little black dress
Think of your room as a little black dress and everything else is an accessory. You need jewellery. This is your lighting. Overhead lighting is for charm, not light. Accessorise with a beautiful pendant light. It can be as simple or ornate as you can imagine. Use lamps, they are there to create ambient lighting. Make them soft and beautiful. Place them next to mirrors to reflect the light around the room. Use artwork to create a burst of colour.
Choose classic furniture
To save money and keep stylish, go with quality over quantity. A few well-made classic pieces of furniture will always look good. Stay with simple styles and classic materials. Leather is a good material for living rooms, and comes in many colours. Tables with natural wood, glass, slate never go out of fashion. When in doubt, do less. Understated looks are rarely wrong.
