Snap up your dream home at Wapping Wharf Living with Help to Buy

By Caitlin Bowring  Friday Nov 20, 2020

Many of the homes being built at Wapping Wharf, Bristol’s much-loved harbourside neighbourhood, have already been snapped up – but selected apartments are still available through Help to Buy.

Seventy per cent of the 163 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments have been reserved off-plan with construction of this exciting new phase of development reaching its final stages. Around a fifth of these are being purchased through the Government’s Help to Buy scheme, which will be changing very soon.

The scheme currently allows first-time buyers and existing homeowners to buy a new home with a deposit from as low as five per cent, while the Government lends up to 20 per cent of the value of the property. Eligibility criteria apply.

Couple Jo Ley, 24, and Cary Leighton, 28, used Help to Buy to secure their new home at Wapping Wharf.  “We went to the preliminary off-plan sales meeting a year ago and initially thought we had the budget for a one-bedroom flat,” says Cary, “but Help to Buy has meant we are able to buy a larger two-bedroom apartment which we are thrilled about.”

“Wapping Wharf has been so carefully thought out as a development. It really feels like we are part of the future of living, where communities are created to last,” says Jo. “This is a very special place that houses independent businesses and beautiful living spaces and has already created an amazing community.”

In keeping with the historic dockside location, and phase one of the development, Wapping Wharf Living has the same industrial wharf-like design and many apartments have balconies overlooking the new street scenes or internal garden courtyards. Housed in two buildings called Abel Yard and Hope Quay, with five and six floors respectively, the new development has been designed by architects, Alec French, who also designed the existing award-winning homes at Wapping Wharf.

“This is the most desirable part of Bristol to live in,” says Cary. “We wanted to be close to the water and the independent shops in CARGO but also have city-centre shops, bars and restaurants on our doorstep. It really is the perfect spot.”
