Bristol hosting its first ever learning festival
Bristol’s first learning festival is set to take place between March 30 and April 5, and more than 260 activities are already planned.
Bristol Learning City Festival will take place at lots of different locations, with activities hosted by a range of local organisations to promote a healthy attitude to learning, teach a range of skills.
Activities programmed include drama workshops, digital photography, upcycling, carpentry, woodblock printing, urban gardening, family cooking and cycling sessions.

The festival aims to bring people from different backgrounds, ages, faiths and races together to encourage them to try something new, and create a sense of unity through learning.
“The council is working hard to create an inclusive city where everyone benefits from, and truly values, lifelong learning,” Councillor Anna Keen, cabinet member for education and skills. “As part of this vision, we hope the festival will change the perception that learning ends after education and that people will feel inspired to try something new.”
The festival’s launch at Underfall Yard will be open to all the public and gives a chance to meet some of the organisations involved.
Organisations involved include Aerospace, Bristol Ageing Better, Bristol Rovers, Brunel’s SS Great Britain, City of Bristol College, North Bristol NHS Trust and UWE Bristol.

Bristol is England’s first UNESCO Learning City meaning that it is a part of a world-wide network that promotes learning as a way to transform lives, communities, organisations and cities.
“Bristol is a great place to learn, with many opportunities on offer,” says Anna. “It’s fantastic to see so many local providers and partners coming together to bring learning to life in every corner of the city. I’d encourage everyone, of all ages and communities, to join in the joy of learning.”
