Nurturing the next gen of Bristol creatives
Four students from St Mary Redcliffe and Temple School have secured valuable work and experience as a result of a partnership with social enterprise Represent.
The project was launched in February 2015 with aims to tackle the lack of diversity in the creative sector across Bristol and the South West, primarily by engaging and connecting students, local agencies and big brands through recruitment and training schemes.
Offering a series of workshops and clinics where students are given tips on CV writing, job applications and interviews, the scheme is currently being rolled out to all secondary schools and higher education centres in Bristol, providing guidance on ways to break into the creative sector.
is needed now More than ever
Head teacher of St Mary Redcliffe school, Elisabeth Gilpin said: “I have been impressed with the passion Represent have for helping young people cross traditional boundaries into industries that need more diversity to be truly representative of the wonderfully rich mix of young people we have in Bristol. “
“Running these lively workshops gives students new knowledge about the wide range of opportunities, and helping individual students craft their CVs has led to top quality work placements. Some of the students have also been successful in finding employment as a direct result of this contact.”
Two of the students who participated in the scheme gained experience at a local PR agency, and another two carried out their placements here at Bristol 24/7 HQ.
Annalise Jones, one of the students who gained some journalistic experience with us, said: “The work experience was very hands on and I got the perfect taster on what it would really be like to be employed in this specific field. I cannot stress enough how valuable work experience is, it can really help you to decide what career path you want to take.”
