We round up the best local education courses starting this autumn with places still available:

MSci Palaeontology and Evolution

University of Bristol

A four-year full-time degree studying the life of the past and developing an understanding of the evolution of life on this planet through the study of geology and biology.

The first year is made up of studying units in earth science and biology, while from the second year you can choose to take optional units in subjects as varied as vertebrate palaeobiology and evolution, climates and ecosystems and early human origins.

The course involves fieldwork, including dedicated palaeontology field trips, the cost of which is included in the tuition fees. Starts October 1.

MA Wildlife Filmmaking

UWE Bristol

UWE Bristol has partnered with the BBC Natural History Unit to offer this course, which covers research, script writing, directing, producing, production management and the pitching and commissioning of ideas with network. Students learn to tell stories and make intelligent and surprising programmes to captivate and engage audiences. Alongside the course, students have incredible opportunities to network with professional wildlife film makers and attend talks, film festivals and other events around the city.

Graduates of this course now work for the BBC, Icon Films, Discovery, Tigress Productions and other top production companies in the UK and oversees. Start September 24.

MSc Cyber Security

UWE Bristol

This Master’s degree seeks to address the cyber skills gap, providing an advanced knowledge and understanding of cyber security issues. Practical and technically focused, it’s ideal for graduates of computing-based degrees and related disciplines who wish to deepen and extend their knowledge in this area.

You’ll study complex, mission critical systems and apply your learning through hands-on projects that solve real-world problems. You will graduate well-prepared for rewarding roles within this field of work. Starts September 24.

 

Language classes

International House Bristol

Learn something new with International House Bristol‘s autumn term programme of foreign language classes.
These 90-minute evening classes take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6.15pm to 9.30pm and cover various levels of languages including French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Mandarin, Welsh, Greek and Portuguese. Other classes available include conversational Italian, French, German and Spanish and courses for over-65s.

Courses run for 15 weeks and cost £200 for the term. Starts September 3.

Language classes at International House Bristol

BEng (Hons) Robotics

UWE Bristol

Taught by world-class researchers from one of Europe’s largest robotic labs, this degree is for anyone interested in understanding and developing robots. Although primarily an engineering course, Robotics extends into areas like artificial life, biology-inspired robotics, swarm intelligence and human-robot interaction.

The blend of hardware, software and problem solving skills students will acquire on this course make them valuable to a rewarding career devising, developing and managing intelligent systems in sectors such as manufacturing, aerospace, healthcare, leisure and the creative arts. Starts September 24.

 

Animal Science & Conservation and Animal Care

SGS College

If you have a passion for wildlife, SGS College has two part-time courses in Animal Science & Conservation and Animal Care, which are new for this year. These Level 2 qualifications will be carried out on a distance learning basis with initial practice session in college, four practical college days and an online submission of work and tutor support, and will be of interest who are looking to work in the animal care industry or may be volunteering within the sector and wish to gain a qualification. Starts September 1.

SGS College’s Animal Care is a new course for 2018

BA (Hons) Ancient History

University of Bristol

A three-year full-time course exploring the ancient Greek and Roman World and the methodologies used by modern scholars to study these cultures.

Optional units include ancient language, literature, philosophy or art, and the course culminates with a dissertation in the topic of your choice in the third year.

There is also an opportunity to work with other department including Archaeology and Anthropology and studying abroad for one semester. Starts October 1.

Game Art, Video and Photography

Access Creative College

Sign up for a games and media courses this September with Access Creative College and from the new year you will studying in a brand new state-of-the-art creative campus in the heart of the city centre that includes a Virtual Reality suite, green screen studio and games and media labs. Courses on offer include Games Art and Games Technology, Digital & Interactive Media and Video & Photography and are available at Level 2 and 3, so there are options whatever your exam results. Starts September 3.

Japanese language courses

Yu Japanese Language School

These classes allow you to improve your language skills with Japanese language courses for beginners through to advanced, in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. The school also offers one-to-one tuition for more tailored learning, and all teachers at the school are native speakers of Japanese and experienced in teaching Japanese as a foreign language in schools and universities.

Most of the courses last 30 weeks, and are split into three terms starting in October, January and April respectively.

Songwriting and Music Production

BIMM Bristol
