Blind date: Candi and Charlie
We sent creative copywriter Candi and marketing assistant Charlie to Nutmeg for Indian food for their blind date. The food was sublime, but was romance on the cards?
Candi, 26
Have you ever been on a blind date before?
Never, so it was a little daunting but also pretty exciting.
is needed now More than ever
What made you want to go on this blind date?
I love the Bristol food scene so the promise of a free meal in a nice restaurant was appealing. That and meeting someone new. I’d read a few of the write-ups and it intrigued me!
What were your first thoughts when you saw your date?
Well, I nearly sat down with a random guy who was on their own when I walked into the restaurant. When Charlie arrived, it was a relief to see my actual date.
What did you talk about?
Lots of things. We both work in the marketing/creative industry so we had common ground there. Bristol festivals too. And beer. And wine. And how ridiculously good the poppadums were.
What was the atmosphere like?
Buzzing! We were both surprised at how busy it was on a Tuesday night – a sign of a good restaurant, for sure.
Any moments when you wished you were somewhere else?
No, it was a nice way to spend a Tuesday evening.
What would you say is the best characteristic of your date?
His nature. He was really polite and easy to get along with. No arrogance or negative vibes. Strong shirt game too.
What do you think your date made of you?
Probably, she chats a lot and polishes off that Prosecco at lightning speed.
Is there anything you would change about the evening?
I would have given myself more time to get ready and probably run some straighteners through my hair to tame its Hagrid vibes.
Did you go somewhere else after your meal?
No, we were both conscious of it being a Tuesday. We went outside to take our selfie and ordered Ubers simultaneously.
Were there any sparks of potential…?
I don’t think there was a romantic connection there but we both definitely fell in love with the food.
Will you meet again?
Who knows, maybe our paths will cross in the future. Although I don’t think wedding bells will be looming, he’s a lovely guy so I’d definitely stop and say hey if I bump into him at a festival.
