Blind Date: Conal and Olivia
Olivia and Conal went on a blind date at the Christmas Steps pub for a drink and a meal. Was there any Christmas magic?
Name and occupations
Conal, a designer
Olivia, PR
Have you ever been on a blind date before?
Conal: “Nope! It’s quite a bizarre thing to do.”
Olivia: “No.”
is needed now More than ever
What made you go on this blind date?
Conal: “Desperation and crippling loneliness.”
Olivia: “To experience something new. And you can’t turn down a free meal.”
What were your first thoughts when you saw your date?
Conal: “Not very friendly looking.”
Olivia: “He looked really friendly, very smiley.”
What did you talk about?
Conal: “Not a lot. There were quite a lot of awkward silences. I think we mentioned where we grew up.”
Olivia: “Bits and bobs. The conversation didn’t really flow.”
What was the atmosphere like?
Conal: “In the restaurant? Nice, warm and welcoming with friendly staff. Between the two of us? Ice cold.”
Olivia: “The atmosphere in the restaurant was lovely, and the food was delicious!”
Any moments when you wished you were somewhere else?
Conal: “Not somewhere else, but I spent the whole time wishing that my blind date had been the waitress instead.”
Olivia: “Only on a beach in the Caribbean.”
What would you say is the best characteristic of your date?
Conal: “Hard to say – we really didn’t get on. She takes good care of her hair.”
Olivia: “Not sure. We didn’t really get on. But he had really nice teeth.”
What do you think your date made of you?
Conal: “Probably that I don’t drink enough whey protein.”
Olivia: “I honestly couldn’t say. Not overly positive. He kept saying he fancied the waitress. Which is awkward, because I fancied the barman.”
Is there anything you would change about the evening?
Conal: “Maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned my vast collection of Danny Dyer memorabilia.”
Olivia: “More wine!”
Did you go somewhere else after your meal?
Conal: “We parted ways as soon as the last mouthful was eaten.”
Olivia: “Yes, I went to my friend’s house for more wine.”
Were there any sparks of potential?
Conal: “It was absolutely barren.”
Olivia: “No.”
Will you meet again?
Conal: “I gave her a fake number, so if she tries to contact me she’ll get through to my grandma instead.”
Olivia: “No.”
