Blind date: Henry & Imy

By Nancy Serle  Tuesday Oct 23, 2018

If you ever find yourself stuck for date ideas then you’re in luck: we’ve partnered with Datemakers to share Bristol’s best date ideas and experiences.

This month, plumber Henry, 24, went on a date with accountant Imogen, 23, at Calypso Kitchen in Wapping Wharf where they enjoyed a meaty sharing platter and had a few Caribbean cocktails.

No, this was my first time on a blind date. It was a fun experience.

What did you think of this experience as a first date?

It was a lot of fun. Calypso Kitchen had the table ready for us when we arrived, which made the experience a lot more relaxing.

What were your first thoughts when you saw your date?

Imy was very welcoming and friendly. I was also glad that I was pronouncing her name correctly.

What did you talk about?

Our hobbies and interests, what we had done over the summer and our favourite bars and pubs in Bristol.

What was the atmosphere of the date like?

Very relaxed. The conversation flowed well and we both enjoyed the meal.

Any moments when you wished you were elsewhere?

Not at all, it was very pleasant company and the food was lovely.

What would you say is the best characteristic of your date?

Imy was very easy to talk to and had a good sense of humour.

What do you think your date made of you?

Hopefully friendly, funny and easy going.

Is there anything you would change about the evening?

I don’t think so. After dinner we walked along to Kongs on King Street and had more drinks and played some games.

Were there any sparks of potential?

Maybe, we had some common interests and got along well.

Have you arranged to meet again, or will you in the future?

We’ve exchanged numbers with the potential to meet up again.

Have you ever been on a blind date before?

Yes, but this one was a vast improvement!

What did you think of this experience as a first date?

The restaurant was absolutely delightful – great service, high quality food – but maybe corn on the cob isn’t best for a first date.

What were your first thoughts when you saw your date?

Deeeeecent!

What did you talk about?

Improvised acting, cruise ships, King Street: the normal stuff.

What was the atmosphere of the date like?

Very pleasant. The staff at Calypso were so friendly and were awesome from start to finish.

Any moments when you wished you were somewhere else?

Absolutely not!

What would you say is the best characteristic of your date?

He seemed very easy going, which made for a natural, free-flowing conversation.

What do you think your date made of you?

He texted me afterwards so I definitely didn’t scare him away, which I’m pretty chuffed about.

Is there anything you would change about the evening?

It might have been nice to have a drink before dinner, so we could chat more before going straight into a sharing platter as I had corn on the cob all up in my teeth. It was a bit awkward.

Were there any sparks of potential?

I had a really nice evening and I think he did too, so we’ll see how it goes!

Have you arranged to meet again, or will you in the future?

Nothing in the diary…yet.
