Blind Date: Janine and Dave
With many thanks to this month’s hosts Wahaca, 70-78 Queens Road, BS8 1QU
This month we sent Janine and Dave for a spicy Mexican meal at Wahaca, but did things hot up between them?
Name and occupation?
“Janine Doggett, Marketing manager”
“Dave White, Surveyor”
Have you ever been on a blind date before?
Janine: “Nope.”
Dave: “No!”
What made you want to go on this blind date?
Janine: “My lovely housemate El gave me the bright idea.”
Dave: “It’s something I hadn’t done before and I love meeting new people.”
What were your first thoughts when you saw your date?
Janine: “Oh good! He looks normal.”
Dave: “A big, beautiful smile and dressed all in black – like a sexy, grinning undertaker.”
What did you talk about?
Janine: “The perils of Tinder and refined sugar.”
Dave: “Movies, music, dating, work, play, food, drink, Cornwall, London, Bristol.”
What was the atmosphere like?
Janine: “Relaxed yet slightly chilly.”
Dave: “Good, I was a bit nervous at first but she was really friendly.”
Any moments when you wished you were somewhere else?
Janine: “Only when he asked me whether I’d just come from a funeral.”
Dave: “Not at all. I did feel completely intimidated by how fit she is. I mean the girl does triathlons for fun.”
What would you say is the best characteristic of your date?
Janine: “Openness and honesty.”
Dave: “She’s wonderfully determined, she decides she wants to achieve something and then does it. I was completely in awe of that and found it rather inspirational.”
What do you think your date made of you?
Janine: “His summary was intimidating yet interesting. I’ll take the latter.”
Dave: “Tricky to tell! I really hope she thought I was a good guy, even if I wasn’t exactly her kind of guy.”
Is there anything you would change about the evening?
Janine: “It was fun – perhaps more milk in the White Russian.”
Dave: “Not really. I guess it would’ve been nice if we could’ve shared a few drinks.”
Did you go somewhere else after your meal?
Janine: “To the swingy chairs in the bar – one for the road.”
Dave: “To the bar to chat some more (and to sit in the birdcage seats).”
Were there any sparks of potential?
Janine: “Yes, when we both got excited about power ballads.”
Dave: “I can’t imagine Janine going for me, we’re such different people.”
Will you meet again?
Janine: “It depends on whether he can cope with conversations about maximum heart rate and lactate threshold!”
Dave: “I hope so. She’s definitely smarter and more interesting than the average bear and we don’t live far apart.”
