Love / Blind date
Blind date: Luke and Caroline
Auditor Luke, 28, met research scientist Caroline, 29, for a glass blowing date followed by pizza, organised by DateMakers.
Luke:
Have you ever been on a blind date before?
is needed now More than ever
Never been on a blind date before. I was pushed into it by an old friend.
What did you think of this experience as a first date?
It was a first time glass blowing for both of us and I think it was a great icebreaker. The guys who ran the session were good fun and we got to make our own glass baubles to take home.
What were your first thoughts when you saw your date?
Very blonde and very smiley. I knew we would get on easily.
What did you talk about?
We have both been travelling a lot (Chicago, Japan) so there were a lot of adventures to talk about. Plus Caroline is a mega F1 fan, so we chatted about the current season too.
What was the atmosphere of the date like?
Pretty relaxed actually, I think we were both up for a good time and it was great to chill after the glass blowing with a pizza and a beer (or two).
Any moments when you wished you were somewhere else?
Not really, the date went very quickly, which I guess is a good sign.
What would you say is the best characteristic of your date?
She had a ‘can do’ attitude and was up for a good laugh. She seemed like someone who doesn’t take life too seriously.
What do you think your date made of you?
Maybe that I’m slightly mad! We got on well, so I’m sure that’s a positive
Is there anything you would change about the afternoon?
The afternoon went very quickly as Caroline was heading to a party that evening. A couple more drinks wouldn’t have gone amiss.
Were there any sparks of potential…?
I think we got on really well but probably more as friends ultimately.
Will you meet again?
I gave Caroline a lift to buy a 25Kg bag of onions, so I’m sure she owes me a drink.
Caroline:
Have you ever been on a blind date before?
No! I’ve always liked the idea of it but never quite been brave enough to give it a go.
What did you think of this experience as a first date?
I’d never done glass blowing before, and given Luke hadn’t tried it either, it put us on a level playing field. There were a lot of fun challenges which appealed to my competitive side.
What were your first thoughts when you saw your date?
Relief that he’d turned up, and quite pleased that he turned down my initial offer of a handshake for a hug instead.
What did you talk about?
I think we covered pretty much all topics. We’re both quite chatty people so there weren’t many moments of silence.
What was the atmosphere of the date like?
Very relaxed, easy going and fun!
Any moments when you wished you were somewhere else?
Not at all. Except perhaps during the competition of who could stretch the glass the furthest, where I got stuck in the back of a garage.
What would you say is the best characteristic of your date?
He seemed very self-assured, which translated as having great, relaxed conversation.
What do you think your date made of you?
I thought we hit it off! He got on board with my mission to buy a 25kg sack of onions and insisted on helping, so I guess he didn’t think I was too odd?
Is there anything you would change about the afternoon?
I wished we could’ve chatted for longer, but I had to head off to an event in the evening.
Were there any sparks of potential…?
Perhaps with a little more time?
Will you meet again?
I had a good time so yeah, I’d like to – plus I definitely owe him a drink or two for carrying all those onions!
