Blind Date: Rob and Alice
Charity worker Rob, 28, went on a DateMakers blind date with researcher Alice, 33, where they learned magic tricks and drank cocktails at Smoke & Mirrors.
Rob:
Have you ever been on a blind date before?
is needed now More than ever
No. Just regular, know-the-person-vaguely-beforehand dates.
What did you think about a private magic show as a first date?
It was immense, if a bit weird at first. I like magic and can easily get swept away by the whole experience, and so could Alice. Marco the magician had some awesome tricks, and learning a couple of simple ones (albeit very poorly) was fun.
What were your first thoughts when you saw your date?
I thought she was part of the staff as she was chatting with the barman, but when we did meet she seemed confident, pretty and liked wine. All good!
What did you talk about?
All the usual getting to know you stuff: jobs, her intolerance of winter, the terrible food in the Philippines, drunken housemates, magic.
What was the atmosphere of the date like?
A bit odd but in a pleasant way. The cocktails helped.
Any moments when you wished you were somewhere else?
Not particularly.
What would you say is the best characteristic of your date?
Open, funny and happy to chat.
What do you think your date made of you?
‘Good company’. I know because she said so.
Is there anything you would change about the evening?
The date itself was fine, but a bit more romance would have pleased my heart.
Did you go somewhere else after?
No. I went home for cheese; she went somewhere in an Uber.
Were there any sparks of potential…?
Magically, yes! Romantically, no.
Will you meet again?
I doubt it, we didn’t even exchange numbers.
Alice:
Have you ever been on a blind date before?
No
What did you think about a private magic show as a first date?
It was really fun and gave us plenty to chat about. I was really impressed with the magician, Marco!
What were your first thoughts when you saw your date?
Thank God, he looks normal and doesn’t have a tag on his ankle
What did you talk about?
We talked about how we had signed up for the blind date – he had no idea he had to do a questionnaire afterwards! Plus, Marco the magician came over to us several times to show us how to do tricks, so that gave us plenty to chat about. Rob was really good at the tricks and I was rubbish! I’ll blame the cocktails…
What was the atmosphere of the date like?
The Atmosphere of Smoke & Mirrors is really relaxed and fun – a nice, chilled bar with the added bonus of some awesome entertainment – great for something a little bit different on a night out.
Any moments when you wished you were somewhere else?
Nope, it was a really fun night.
What would you say is the best characteristic of your date?
He was really easy to chat to and I felt very at ease.
What do you think your date made of you?
Probably that I talk a lot and am rubbish at magic tricks!
Is there anything you would change about the evening?
Nope!
Did you go somewhere else after?
No – three hours flew by and I had to be up early for work the next day.
Were there any sparks of potential…?
Sadly, not romantically.
Will you meet again?
No
