Love / Blind date
Blind Date: Stephan & Kara
If you ever find yourself stuck for date ideas then you’re in luck: we’ve partnered with DateMakers to share Bristol’s best date ideas and experiences.
This month, architect Stephen, 29, went on a date with college tutor Kara, also 29, to share tapas at The Library Wine Bar on Cheltenham Road.
Stephen:
Have you ever been on a blind date before?
Never. My work colleague spotted a Bristol24/7 tweet and sent it my way and I thought, ‘Why not?’!
What did you think of this experience as a first date?
The atmosphere of The Library is nice and cosy – perfect for a first date – and the staff are super-friendly. I love sharing tapas as you get to choose from the menu together. The food was delicious and the drink plentiful.
What were your first thoughts when you saw your date?
Very smiley and cute.
What did you talk about?
All sorts: how we both ended up in Bristol, the fact that we’d both never been on a blind date before, the modern world of online dating, and how refreshing it was to not know everything about a person before meeting.
What was the atmosphere of the date like?
We (bravely?) went for big topics and avoided small talk like talking about the weather. I don’t think there was ever an awkward moment but Kara may prove me wrong….
Any moments when you wished you were somewhere else?
Nope.
What would you say is the best characteristic of your date?
Kara has a really positive attitude and her stories about working abroad were inspiring.
What do you think your date made of you?
A little serious perhaps?
Is there anything you would change about the evening?
Certainly not, it was great to meet someone who loves Bristol as much as I do.
Were there any sparks of potential…?
No sparks unfortunately, which is a shame.
Will you meet again?
Maybe at the climbing centre…
Kara:

It was a lovely tapas bar, very relaxed and a nice setting for a first date.
What were your first thoughts when you saw your date?
Good – he looked friendly.
What did you talk about?
Lots of things – I think the prosecco helped! There were no awkward silences.
What was the atmosphere of the date like?
There was a nice relaxed atmosphere in the bar, and the staff were very welcoming.
Any moments when you wished you were somewhere else?
No, I like to live in the moment.
What would you say is the best characteristic of your date?
He was relaxed and easy to talk to.
What do you think your date made of you?
Hopefully he thought I was chatty and friendly.
Is there anything you would change about the evening?
No, it was a good experience.
Were there any sparks of potential…?
We got on in a friendly way but there were no romantic sparks.
Will you meet again?
If we did it would be as friends.
