Bristol blind date: Nicholas and Victoria
We sent Nicholas and Victoria on a blind date to Goldbrick House. Their conversation veered from rugby to meat eating. But were there any shoots of romance over the steak?

is needed now More than ever
Have you ever been on a blind date before?
Nicholas: Never
Victoria: Never. I’ve met people from tinder before, but you have a chat and see picture beforehand. I’ve never met anyone I’ve known absolutely nothing about.
What made you want to go on this blind date?
Nicholas: I’ve just moved to Bristol so was a chance to meet someone new. I also make it a rule never to turn down free food.
Victoria: Free dinner.
What were your first thoughts when you saw your date?
Nicholas: How lucky I was.
Victoria: I wonder if that’s my date, he looks lost.
What did you talk about?
Nicholas: How great Bristol is. Food. Wales and New Zealand. Cats and dogs. Coffee and tea.
Victoria: We’re both relatively new to Bristol, so talked a lot about what brought us here and why, and how much we love Bristol of course! Rugby came up, him being Welsh and me being a Kiwi. I’ve also recently given up meat (reluctantly), so it was bound to come up a couple of times as I eyed up his amazing food.
What was the atmosphere like?
Nicholas: Very nice and relaxed.
Victoria: Very relaxed. Goldbrick House is lovely.
Any moments when you wished you were somewhere else?
Nicholas: Not at all.
Victoria: Nothing to do with my date, but when I was in the toilet someone walked in on me with my trousers down and caught an eye-full. Not my finest moment!
What would you say is the best characteristic of your date?
Nicholas: Very easy to talk to and easy on the eye.
Victoria: He was really easy-going. There wasn’t an awkward moment – well except for my separate toilet incident.
What do you think your date made of you?
Nicholas: Looking back at the picture we took, probably how shiny my forehead was!
Victoria: I hope he thought I was friendly!
Is there anything you would change about the evening?
Nicholas: Shame it was mid-week.
Victoria: Bigger portion sizes.
Did you go somewhere else after your meal?
Nicholas: No, she had work the next day.
Victoria: Yes, I went home (alone).
Were there any sparks of potential?
Nicholas: Hopefully. Victoria was very nice.
Victoria: Friendship, but nothing more. He asked me ‘Cats or dogs?’ I said dogs, he said cats. It’ll never work! I’m not feline it.
Will you meet again?
Nicholas: Hopefully!
Victoria: If we do, it’ll be just as friends.
