Love / blind dates
Six summer date ideas
We’ve teamed up with DateMakers, who send our blind date couples out on alternative dates each month, to share six great ideas for getting out and about with a special someone this summer.
From an overnight stay in a wigwam with an unbeatable view over some of Bristol’s most famous landmarks to a fun first date spent inventing your own ice-cream, switch off Love Island and get out there.
is needed now More than ever
Fancy yourself as the next headline act to grace the stages of Ibiza’s club scene, or simply want a new way to hear and enjoy music? This is certainly a date to get your heartbeat racing. Held at Basement 45, you’ll get to take over the whole sound system (behind closed doors, at least this time!) and learn to spin and scratch with an expert teacher, while sipping a cocktail or two.
Turning up to a date in your oldest, paint-splattered clothes might be a little unusual, but it’s absolutely necessary this time. It’s a chance to release your inner Banksy in the home of street art by learning the techniques of spray painting. You and your date must first think of a theme for the art work you’d like to create – think space, travel, food – and street art whizz Ash will get thinking about a design. On the day, you’ll go through some simple can and painting techniques before getting stuck in.
Invent your own liquid nitrogen ice-cream (£50)
Take a trip to Brozen Bar to try out a range of ice-cream and sorbets cooled using liquid nitrogen for a dreamily smooth texture. You’ll also get the chance to create your own flavor combinations, going through the process of making liquid nitrogen ice-cream with twin brothers Joe and Ben who run the bar, before sampling your creations in the comfort of their little bar.
Choose a sunny evening or weekend and head out to Cadbury Apacas to meet your new favourite gang. You’ll take a private tour of the farm and have some bonding time with the alpacas, and after that you’re free to take a seat in a romantic outdoor gazebo, set against the stunning backdrop of the North Somerset’s rolling countryside. Feel free to bring some wine or a picnic with you to enjoy while you watch the alpacas roam.
Spend a night away (but not too far away) from home, staying in your very in own wigwam. Complete the luxury glamping experience by bringing along a barbecue and some marshmallows, as you relax in for a stay in this former quarry with breathtaking views of Bristol that include the Clifton Suspension Bridge, the Severn bridges and the Welsh hills. How romantic.
The tandem is one of the best modes of transport to explore Bristol’s hidden treasures, and also a great way to immediately discover if you and your significant other are compatible. This date is all about teamwork, and a stop off at a watering hole for ‘team drinks’ is recommended. Potter along the Bristol to Bath cycle path, pick up the Festival Way to Ashton Court or go for a spin around the waterfront.
