Valentine’s Day gifts for him

By Sally Telford  Thursday Feb 12, 2015

Does the man in your life dislike Valentines day? Change his mind with a thoughtful gift – nothing big, it’s just an extra day to appreciate him, and just maybe he’ll think better of the day next year

From bottom left:

The Spicery subscription; this is one you’ll both benefit from, the spicery freshly grind all of the spices in Bath. They are a world away from those jars in the cupboard you’ve had forever. They send you a box a month (for three, six or 12 months) and you just add the ingredients needed. We had some really delicious, different, meals from the Friday night curry box. £19.95 www.thespicery.com/pages/spiceboxes/fridaynightcurry.html

Wash bag from Alphabet bags, with a sweet message on the bag to tell him how handsome he is you can replace that old freebie he’s had forever (that just mine?) £22

A date – take him out, go low key. Let everyone pay over the odds for a posh meal, crammed in a restaurant full of couples and turfed off they’re table after two hours for the next sitting… go to the cinema, go for beers, go for pizza. We recommend The Cube or Watershed for something different and Flour and Ash for pizza.

Tom Ford Soap – a little token. I know it’s just soap, but it’s Tom Ford – super smart. I know I’d like it in my bathroom. £26

Wine – forget presents go see the lovely people at Grape and Grind and spend all of your budget on a really good bottle of red wine and cook dinner at home.

Steak – OK this might be a cliche but it’s one I personally have found to be a winner. Every year I cook steak for my husband. Steak, chips and really good mustard. Go and see you local butcher, Bristol’s best are Rare on North Street, Source in St Nicks Market, Ruby and White on Whiteladies Road and Murrays on Gloucester Road.
