Chance & Counters to open second site in Bristol

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Feb 28, 2023

After looking for a suitable site for almost three years, Chance & Counters have found a second home in Bristol.

Since opening their original premises on Christmas Steps, the board game bar and cafe group have opened other locations in Birmingham and Cardiff.

Their new flagship site on Gloucester Road, due to open in April, will be their largest so far and double up as a group headquarters, with the original Christmas Steps venue continuing to operate unchanged.

The 3,500 sq.ft site was on Gloucester Road was previously occupied by Purezza and before that Pigsty, with the Chance & Counters team collaborating with Purezza to retain a small selection of vegan pizzas alongside a significantly expanded food operation overseen by the group’s executive chef Nathan Wright.

Chance & Counters co-founder Steve Cownie said: “We’ve been on the hunt for a new site in Bristol for nearly three years now and we couldn’t be happier to have found it.

“Bristol is where it all started for us so it feels pretty amazing finally to be in a position to grow here.

“The Christmas Steps site will always be massively important to us, but we realised pretty early on we just didn’t have the space and facilities there to meet demand in Bristol.

“Having all this extra capacity in such a great spot on Gloucester Road is huge. We can’t wait to get the doors open.”
