Pop-up multi-charity retail store extends run

By Charlie Watts  Monday Aug 7, 2023

A multi-charity retail store is extending its run in Bristol and welcoming five new charities following “huge sales success”.

Customers will now be able to buy second-hand items at Charity Super.Mkt until September 24, a month longer than planned.

The pop-up, which opened in Cabot Circus on July 20, has already sold more than 5,000 clothes, accessories and shoes with almost 500 items sold on the opening night alone.

From August, the store has also introduced five new charities: Shelter, Bath Cats & Dogs, GWAA, Weston Hospicecare and Havens Hospices.

The first ever multi-charity retail store in the UK, Charity Super.Mkt has previously had pop-ups at Brent Cross (London) and The Oracle (Reading), raising £627,000 for charity.

The “department store for second-hand style” is now on course to raise more than £1m in Bristol, much to the delight of its founders, Wayne Hemingway and Maria Chenoweth.

Hemingway said: “One of the reasons we selected Cabot Circus for Charity Super.Mkt is that we knew Bristol embodied the concept of ‘circular economy’ and would understand our unique business model.

“Charity Super.Mkt is miles ahead when it comes to delivering purposeful retail and has so far been a huge success, meaning that the charities involved are raising thousands for good causes, and more and more customers realise the importance of sustainable shopping.

“This is just the start of our relationship with this great city!”

Chenoweth added: “Bringing Charity Super.Mkt to Cabot Circus has been an amazing experience for us and the charities involved.

“The long queues on opening night showed that this is the right city for the concept and it’s been fantastic to see how customers are embracing charity fashion and shopping.

“We’re excited to be extending our stay in Bristol and can’t wait for customers to see for themselves the new collection curated by our new charities this month.”

To celebrate its extended run, Charity Super.Mkt will be hosting a free event on Thursday with vinyl DJ sets and “a new eclectic mix of pre-loved items from luxury fashion houses to high street favourites”.
