The biggest online gaming tournaments with huge prize pools

By Josh OHara  Friday Jan 27, 2023

Over the previous two decades, esports players have amassed enormous
fortunes. Despite the fact that the amount of a prize pool does not influence an
event’s classification, participants use it as the main factor in determining
whether or not to participate.
Dennis “Thresh” Fong won John Carmack’s red Ferrari 328 as the first esports
prize in 1997. “Toxjq” Quick got a Rolex for his performance in the WSVG Quake
4 event. However, in today’s world of enormous prize pools, many players can
afford to walk away after winning one.
To increase the overall prize pool, game creators have begun to provide unique
in-game merchandise. Valve, the creators of  Dota 2 and CS: GO , is currently the
most successful company to use this strategy. The International, the world’s
biggest Dota 2 event, has developed enormously during the preceding ten years
of competition. The most lucrative prize pools in the gaming industry are listed
below.
The International 10 – $40 million
With a total reward pool of $1.6 million between 2011 and 2012, crowdfunded
prize pools in esports were the most successful example in history.
Valve has been forced to cancel the most prestigious event in a competitive Dota
2 year for quite some time because of the COVID-19 outbreak. Dota 2 fans were
looking forward to the final match, but Valve had to postpone it for the second
time owing to Sweden’s inability to host The International in 2021.
It is also worth mentioning that as the popularity of esports grows throughout the
globe, many people want to bet on their favorite teams in various events such as
the International 10. According to a statistical report by IBM, UK is considered
one of the countries with the highest e-sports betting volume and online
gambling. It may occur as shock, but it is possible to place various bets not just
through bookmakers, but also at online casino websites. As a result, many
individuals today search for the best website with real casinos UK reviews to
decide where they want to wager on their favorite team and win real money.
Furthermore, many online casinos now offer their clients to claim a variety of
incentives in order to begin betting with them.
The world’s most renowned Dota 2 event has been transferred to Bucharest,
where the world’s best teams are already preparing for the competition. The
stakes will be higher than ever before since a single position in the final rankings
might mean a significant difference in the tournament’s prize pool.
The 2019 Fortnite World Cup Finals – $30.4 million

When Epic held its first Fortnite World Cup Finals, it generated one of the largest
prize pools ever seen in esports. Main events were held in both of the
tournaments. A total of three million dollars was awarded to Kyle “Bugha”
Giersdorf, while David “aqua W” and Emil “Nyhrox” split three million dollars after
winning the pair final. It is also worth noting that increased sponsorship,
advertising, and broadcasting earnings helped to propel Realm Cup into the
lucrative world of professional gaming tournament circuits. Participants from all
around the globe came to the finals following a series of open, online heats with
prize money totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars.
PUBG Global Invitational.S 2021- $7.1 million
The PUBG 2021 season began with one of the highest prize pools in esports
history. Susquehanna Soniqs took home $1,296,189 in cash in this year’s PUBG
Global Invitational.S 2021, which was conducted both online and offline in South
Korea.
The event began with a $3.5 million prize pool. Crowdfunding, on the other hand,
quickly expanded the prize pool to $7,056,789 dollars. In addition to that, in-
game cosmetic purchases for the PUBG Global Invitational.S 2021 Pick’Em
Challenge accounted for 30% of the prize pool’s earnings. There were no points,
kills, or match wins at stake.
The 2018 League of Legends World Championship –
$6.4 million
For the first time ever, in-game purchases enabled League of Legends players to
increase the prize pool in 2017. The next year, a further $6.4 million was added,
making the event the most lucrative in history.
From October 1 to November 3, 2018, the tournament was conducted in South
Korea. Due to their regional circuit standings, twelve of the 24 teams invited to
the competition, including China, South Korea, Europe, and North America, had
to participate in a play-in round. This tournament has been characterized as one
of the most surprising in League of Legends history.
