Father’s Day gift list

By Millie Morris  Thursday Jun 18, 2015

Dads are notoriously tricky to buy gifts for. After exhausting your quota of aftershave, chocolate and endless supplies of socks, why not get a little more creative with these gift ideas and give him a present that will really mean something this Father’s Day.

Draw him a picture
You might not consider yourself the world’s greatest artist, but this is the type of present where it’s the thought that counts more than anything — perhaps you could try a portrait of you and him. If you’re lacking in materials, Bristol Fine Art on Park Row has a great supply of reasonably priced arty items (and if you’re struggling, you can always trace a photo!).

Books
With such a wide range of new and second-hand bookshops in Bristol, you’d be a fool not to peruse them. Bloom & Curll on Colston Street has plenty of hidden gems tucked away in excellent condition, as do Books for Amnesty on Gloucester Road, for which proceeds go to charity.

Cinema tickets
Check out what’s on at the Watershed and give your pa the opportunity to pop down to their cosy, comfortable cinemas. It’s also a great opportunity to spend some quality time with him as this is something you can do together.

Food hamper
Hand-pick his favourite food and drinks and pop them in a hamper, or check out the ready-made ones at the Arch House Deli in Clifton village. If you’re on the other side of Bristol, nip to East Bristol Bakery to wrap up a warm loaf of sourdough.

Music
You can’t go wrong with CDs, DVDs and vinyl to take your dad back to his heyday or immerse him in modern music. You’ll find everything you need, plus some great deals, in independent music shop Fopp at the bottom of Park Street.

Clothes

Smarten his style with a snazzy paisley shirt from vintage clothes shop and record store Rise on Queens Road, or walk on down to Cooshti on Park Street to check out their coloured cardigans.
