Shops / St Nick's Market

Inside the all-natural independent shop in central Bristol

A colourful independent shop selling natural skin products and perfumes has made St Nick’s Market its home.

Upon entering Wildly Beautiful Things, visitors are greeted by a neon yellow “open” LED sign, and inside, a medley of natural scents, carefully hand-mixed by owner Jasmine Hanrahan, fills the air.

Jasmine opened up shop in August after much contemplation over the perfect name.

“Oh, it took ages,” she told Bristol24/7, sitting behind the wooden counter. Jasmine wanted an all-encompassing brand name beyond a single product focus, specifically avoiding a title with “soap.”

“I didn’t want to do that because I knew that I was always going to do a lot more products. And they’re all-natural as much as they can be. They’re from the wild, from nature, and they’re beautiful and they’re just things instead of soap.”

Jasmine’s dedication to crafting products without plastics, synthetic fragrances, and artificial colours stems from her children’s sensitivities

Jasmine, who lives in Totterdown, moved back to Bristol after nine years away. Before opening the shop, she was studying for a degree. However, after multiple lockdowns, home-schooling her children, and family tragedies, Jasmine eventually stopped her degree, leaving her questioning what to do next.

Jasmine began experimenting with various recipes, infusing her love for design and aesthetics into creating products she would be happy for her children to use.

After originally traded in markets after the pandemic, Jasmine eventually secured the unit at St Nick’s. Speaking about the first time she saw her new space, Jasmine said: “I saw it and was like, that’s my shop. That’s definitely my shop.”

Among the shop’s beloved items are four perfumes, each representing a season and unconsciously inspired by Jasmine’s four children

Jasmine’s dedication to crafting products without plastics, synthetic fragrances, and artificial colours came after she found that her youngest daughter was having allergic reactions to everyday, seemingly all-natural products available in supermarkets.

Jasmine wanted to make products that were safe for everyone to use, while also being luxurious.

Among the shop’s beloved items are four perfumes, each representing a season and unconsciously inspired by her four children.

Bristol’s diversity and vibrancy have been a source of encouragement for Jasmine as a small business owner.

“Bristol really appreciates handcrafted products I think,” said Jasmine. “They can see the beauty in it and they see the need for local businesses to thrive. And I think a lot of Bristol are very supportive of local businesses.”
