Jacob’s coming soon to North Street

By Betty Woolerton  Tuesday Mar 15, 2022

A clothing and barber shop is coming to Bedminster.

Jacob’s on North Street is being opened by two friends who met when they started a barbering apprenticeship when they were 15.

Over a decade later, Jacob Davey and Chris Parfitt are opening their fourth premises in the South West.

The new shop is located in what used to be an estate agent’s, Barons Property Centre, and it’s shopfront forms part of the collection of female-painted murals known as the Six Sisters.

Davey opened his first shop in Street, Somerset, where he grew up when he was 20 – a small barber shop with with three chairs.

Off the back of its success, the 27-year-old went on to open another premises in Wells, with friend and colleague Parfitt soon joining the business. The pair then went on to open their first Bristol premises in 2017.

Describing the transition from Somerset to the city, Davey said that “it was a huge step to go from two small shops in Somerset to a big one in Bristol, plus adding the clothing aspect of the business”.

It wasn’t until opening on Park Street that Jacob’s evolved to start selling second hand streetwear.

Rooted by style and sustainability, the business branched out and began trading and up-cycling second hand clothes.

It is the business’ aim to become carbon neutral through a partnership with Wanderlands who offset carbon emissions through tree panting.

Parfitt said: “Working together has been a ride for sure. We have done quite a lot in the last few years but had to totally blag it with no business education. But it’s been so fun to learn and collaborate with people.”

Next to Oowee Diner, the newest Jacob’s will display clothes at the front and have a four-person barbering space at the back.

The pair hope to open on 204 North Street in the first week of April.
