New bookshop to open in Clifton Village
Just a few hundred yards from one of Bristol’s 17 libraries earmarked for closure by the city council, a new bookshop is due to open in a former bank.
Waterstones will open in what was most recently HSBC on Regent Street in Clifton Village.
It will become the third Waterstones in Bristol, with the other two shops in the Galleries and Cribbs Causeway.

Other than in its charity shops, Clifton has a scarcity of reading material for sale. The former Clifton Bookshop on Whiteladies Road is now a furniture shop.
There is currently uncertainty over the future of Clifton Library on Princess Victoria Street – one of 17 of the city’s 27 libraries due to have its funding withdrawn.
An internal report by consultants Mutual Ventures on various options of “alternative delivery models” for Bristol’s libraries is due to be delivered to councillors at the beginning of April.
