Bristol’s newest zero waste shop opens on Gloucester Road
In an age where the damaging impact of plastic on the environment is known better than ever before, we might wonder how we can be smarter with our waste.
A recently opened shop on Gloucester Road is providing Bristol with an opportunity to channel that initial thought into a reality.
Preserve is Bristol’s newest zero waste shop, inviting customers to experience an alternative way to buy products.
is needed now More than ever
By encouraging shoppers to reuse their own containers, visitors can purchase however much or little as they like, with pricing worked on a weight system. These features hope to offer more flexibility with shopping, and an opportunity to radically reduce wastage.
Preserve stocks mainly organic and vegan dry foods, which are locally sourced including pasta, nuts, jams, and spices. Alongside this, it sells ethically-produced, non-food products including cleaning products, general toiletries and reusable straws.

Preserve founder Tiriel Lovejoy has worked in the food industry throughout his career
Tiriel Lovejoy has lived in Bristol for over 20 years and started this new business due to a dissatisfaction with his previous career in food retail, and after realising the environmental importance of zero waste businesses.
“There’s been a lot in the press recently, particularly around plastic,” Tiriel says.
“Obviously, we can’t keep putting waste into the earth as eventually, they’ll be nowhere for it to go. So, it’s important that we all look at ourselves and reduce that.”
“When you’ve got young children, you think about their future, and how the planet is going to be. You have to do what you can to help them.”
Tiriel doesn’t have any plans to expand Preserve but is excited about the movement’s significant growth, with zero waste shops opening across the UK including Zero Green on North Street in Bedminster.
And of course, there is also the long-established Scoopaway which like Preserve is also on Gloucester Road.

Despite being open for only a few days, Preserve has already proved a hit with locals.
“Everyone is really positive about what we’re doing and have said how pleased they are that we’re here,” Tiriel told Bristol24/7. “We’ve had a really successful and busy opening week.”
Tiriel stresses the importance of supporting local businesses: “We feel that here, particularly in this little environment of Gloucester Road, we’ve got outlets where you can buy pretty much anything you need for your weekly shop, so you don’t need to go to a supermarket.”
“Keeping it local is really important, and that’s what we’d like people to do.”
