Shop of the Week: Fabulous Vintage
Customers entering Fabulous Vintage on Gloucester Road are welcomed with a warm smile by owner Safiya Elmi. An independent vintage clothing shop, the timeless collections line every wall.
“I sell mostly 70s and 80s.” explains Safiya, surrounded by a multitude of brightly coloured, unique clothing pieces. Safiya sells it all: hats, wigs, fancy dress and even festival wear. “I really love 80s stuff but sometimes I go older like 20s, 30s and 40s.”

Before opening the permanent Fabulous Vintage store, Safiya sold her items at the vintage market in Stokes Croft.

Her Stokes Croft stall, which has been running for the last five years, will be closed this January as they focus solely on the Fabulous Vintage shop. Fabulous Vintage will be celebrating its two year anniversary in February of 2020.
“When I came to the market, I realised that the vintage clothing is what people want,” says Safiya. “I’ve always loved fashion. I love vintage stuff and old stuff, everything’s so unique and interesting.”
Safiya decided to open her shop on Gloucester Road after moving to Lawrence Hill 20 years ago and is passionate about vintage clothing, both stylistically and ethically.
“The message I’m trying to give through my store is to recycle and to not waste clothing,” she says. “Vintage clothing is good quality, better than the new stuff.”
