Shop of the week: Wex

By Qezz Gill  Wednesday Sep 16, 2020

Bordering onto Montpelier station, Wex stocks a wide range of camera equipment  while offering “standout technical expertise and competitive prices”.

Steve Watkins, the store manager of three years, is behind the Bristol branch of the company, which started life as a web store.

Established in 1997, Wex has helped more than 800,000 photographers and videographers achieve their creative goals.

During lockdown, the store was closed for around eight weeks, but Wex was able to sell online as normal; the company’s background as a web store meant that staff were well equipped to cope.

Since reopening, Steve says that some elements of the camera selling process been “difficult”, as staff haven’t been able to offer hands-on demos of the kit due to social distancing.

Wex has reopened following the lockdown

Steve hopes that, after the Covid-19 pandemic, is for the store to resume events hosting, which has been a staple of the business.

From camera training courses to big sales events and partnerships with Bristol Photographic Society and Martin Parr Foundation, Wex is a business supporting photographers in Bristol to feel inspired and supported.

The store is located near Stokes Croft, just next to Montpelier station

The shop has been made coronavirus-proof
