Support local creatives at a pop-up shop in the centre

By Lowie Trevena  Friday Nov 15, 2019

After having great success in 2018, Bristol Etsy Team and Bristol Girl Bosses have opened their Winter Pop-up Shop for a second year.

Selling everything from hand creams to illustrated prints, the store is a perfect place for buying independent Christmas gifts from local makers.

“We’ve collaborated with even more businesses and artists this year,” says Jodie Curley, owner of Sunshine for Breakfast and part of the Bristol Etsy Team management.

Stocking products from more than 80 makers, every creative is located within a 25-mile radius of Bristol.

The store stocks everything from ceramics by potters such as Bird Can Fox and Isabel Higley to pin badges by Rachel Hall Illustration.

It’s the second year that the Bristol Etsy Team and Bristol Girl Bosses have run the Winter Pop-up shop; 2018 was the first, but both teams have existed for several years and regularly meet up for coffee mornings and to share advice.

Bristol Etsy Team have also organised five Christmas markets, and 2019 marks the second Etsy Made Local taking place in City Hall. Etsy Made Local is something of a ”real life” Etsy, an online store selling handcrafted products by independent makers.

“There’s a core team of about 11,” says Jodie. “You have to have a big team behind the scenes to make it happen.

“Everyone is so supportive as well, it’s a real strength of the creative community. Everyone working in the store is an artist and everyone is committing as much time as possible.

At 2019’s Etsy Made Local, over 120 will sell their goods over Saturday, November 30 and Sunday, December 1.

Etsy Made Local will take place in City Hall for a second time in 2019

Each day will showcase different sellers, all within a 25-mile radius of Bristol. New for 2019 is a cafe, located in the City Hall foyer, and workshops will take place each day. Additionally, a choir will perform on Saturday and there will be entertainment on Sunday too.

“We know how much of a difference it makes to artists and buyers,” says Jodie. “Doing all of this is such a genuine joy.”

The shop is located on the first floor of the Galleries. Find out more at www.bristoletsyteam.co.uk/winter-pop-up-shop-2019
