Bristol’s new Avon Gorge by Hotel du Vin reveals opening date
A multi-million pound refurbishment of one of Bristol’s most famous hotels has revealed a previously hidden marble staircase, stained glass windows, original Turkish baths now home to a wine cellar and a grand event space within the former spa pump rooms.
Avon Gorge by Hotel du Vin and its new Goram & Vincent restaurant are being officially opened on August 24.
Dating back to 1898, the Victorian building was originally known as the Grand Clifton Spa & Hydropathic Institution.
is needed now More than ever
Among all the changes, what has most definitely stayed the same is the hotel’s commanding position above the Avon Gorge, and the panoramic views over the Suspension Bridge and south Bristol.

The view from a hotel bedroom is unrivalled
Hotel bosses describe Goram & Vincent’s concept as “a gritty, earthy smoke house with open kitchen for fire, smoke and theatre”, featuring an open kitchen, coal fired grills, smoker and bespoke clay ovens.
Malmaison Hotel du Vin Group chief operating officer Scott Harper said that he is “thrilled that Hotel du Vin has become part of this much-loved hotel’s incredible history”.
He said: “It’s been a special journey for us, and we’re looking forward to showcasing the Avon Gorge by Hotel du Vin in all its glory.”
