Time away at Butlin’s Minehead holiday camp
The Minehead Butlin’s resort is only about an hour and 40 minutes from Bristol, and is a great choice for an entertaining and family-friendly weekend away. After spending some quality time there, it is clear that the adults can have just as much fun as the children.
The drive is pleasant if you avoid rush hour, and on first impressions the resort looked clean, safe and child-friendly. The Billy Butlin’s statue is there to welcome you to the resort alongside the obvious, colourful reception building, all set in a beautiful Somerset seaside town.
This chain of large holiday camps has changed immensely over the years and definitely for the better. There are several price options to consider and it really can be a home from home, with many exciting adventures included for good measure.
is needed now More than ever
Our accommodation – The Gold Apartment – had a seaside-themed decor that really added to the whole experience, and the all-you-can-eat breakfast and dinner deal was an absolute delight, despite the over-indulging.

After arriving and making ourselves at home, it was time to mark out what activities we were interested in doing during our time at the resort – the vast majority of which were free and included in the price to stay. All of the shows were free and the Cinderella Rocks pantomime was the real highlight, entertaining every audience member in the packed-out theatre.
The pottery painting workshop was a real treat for children of all ages as they were asked to pick up an item they wanted to decorate (like a cupcake or a car ornament) and then they took to one of the many tables in the hall to concentrate on getting the colours just right. Another favourite for several young ones was the general arts and crafts session that focused on decorating a magnet for the fridge. The room was alive with feathers, felt tip and laughter!
The Mr Men shows also go down very well with children, as well as the performances by the famous Butlin’s Redcoats who always seem to have an unlimited amount of energy. As far as adults go, there’s a lot of fun to be had using the many arcade games and there are several pubs and restaurants that can be frequented for a well-deserved sit down.

Regardless of if the weather is in your favour, there are always fun activities to do. When the rain hits you can make use of the free on-site swimming pool, and when the blue skies emerge, head over to the traditional fairground that contains a vast range of free rides.
When the weather perks up, you can enjoy watching your children running about in the outdoor adventure playground, and there’s plenty of green space for everyone to enjoy. It became evident pretty quickly that this Butlin’s resort in particular is a firm family favourite for lots of Bristolians, many of whom come back year after year. Ask them why and they will all say they feel it’s great value for money and the site feels secure, as wristbands and key cards are checked before entering many of the areas.
Whatever your little ones are into, you are sure to find something at Butlin’s that they will enjoy. You can make it as action-packed as you like, and there’s also the option to go off campus and view the local area in the heart of Somerset. For children especially, this place is paradise and the experience will leave them exhausted and satisfied.
