Get your tits out (and make beautiful art)

By Lowie Trevena  Friday Jul 19, 2019

Yoga and meditation teacher Ella Riggs in hosting a takeover. An evening with a difference, this event is focussed on the female body and their chests and is aptly named the ‘Tit Takeover’.

“I am highly interested in the relationship we have with our own bodies,” explains Ella. “I wanted to hold a space where women can celebrate their bodies and feel liberated.”

Held on Thursday, July 25, the Tit Takeover will begin with a ‘sacred circle’ and a discussion, before printmaking using, you’ve guessed it, tits.

Talking about the sacred circle, Ella says: “That circle will be focusing on liberation and celebration, as well as raising awareness for breast cancer as well as mental health. We can discuss ourselves and open this dialogue on difficult conversations.”

Tickets will cost £8, refreshments will be available and a donation from each ticket will be given to raise awareness of breast cancer.

When invited to make prints with their chest, attendees are welcome to paint discreetly or “loud and proud”.

“The body painting is meant to be a liberating experience. It allows women to connect with their bodies by applying paint and create an image of self-love,” says Ella. “The women can also keep their prints afterwards to remind them of the liberation and self-love they felt while creating the prints.”

The overarching aim of the event, which will be held at The Elephant House in Bedminster, is the bring people together to celebrate who they are, as well as the relationship between mind and body.

The event follows May’s successful ExhiBOOBtion at the University of Bristol, which Ella was a part of

Going forward, Ella hopes to run even more events, focussed on different parts of the body, to explore the relationship between bodies, social constructs and the media.

“As a human, we all experience these feelings about our bodies and we can’t always discuss them,” says Ella.

This event will be an excellent chance for people with breasts to explore and discuss their bodies while making beautiful art in a safe space.

The Tit Takeover takes place on Thursday, July 25 at 7.30pm.
