Little Amal is coming to Bristol
Bristol residents will get the chance to see Little Amal in June as part of Refugee Week.
The 3.5 metre-tall living artwork of a young Syrian refugee child has walked across Europe to highlight the urgent needs of young refugees.
Little Amal will walk through the city from King Street to St Nick’s Market, accompanied by musicians and performances by local artists, before finishing her Bristol journey at the Floating Harbour.

“We are excited to welcome Little Amal to Bristol to meet our community, to see our beautiful city and to find out more about Bristol’s status as a City of Sanctuary,” said Tom Morris, artistic director of Bristol Old Vic.
“By welcoming her to Bristol we will also learn from her, understanding more about our own complicated past and our dream of being a fairer and more welcoming city in the future.”
So far, Little Amal has walked across Turkey, Greece, Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium and the UK, taking part in locally arranged events across 65 towns and cities along the way and visiting local figures such as Pope Francis and Vincent Nichols Archbishop of Westminster.
Her visit to Bristol to Bristol has been organised by Bristol Old Vic, Bristol City Council and the West of England Combined Authority.
Little Amal’s journey began in Good Chance Theatre’s play, The Jungle, a play created in the former Calais jungle encampment in 2015. The name Amal means “hope” in Arabic.
She was brought to life as a giant puppet made by War Horse creators Handspring Puppet Company and travelled across Europe as part of The Walk, a travelling art festival that celebrated migration and cultural diversity
Little Amal will be in Bristol on June 24 between 4pm and 6pm.
