1625 Independent People continue to support young people facing homelessness in South West
1625 Independent People (1625ip) has been working harder than ever to ensure that they are available to help and support young people aged 16 to 25 facing homelessness in the South West. 764 young people have been supported by the charity since March 2020.
“The public health crisis has come alongside a homelessness crisis. This has made our services and support more essential than ever. Locally, we have adapted to meet this need. At 1625ip our colleagues have been working tirelessly to keep our services open and ensure all of our young people are safe,” says Dom Wood, chief executive officer.
“Despite the challenges, all of our young people have been supported throughout this crisis and their additional needs met. As a result of Coronavirus, we are at risk of reduced fundraising income. We ask that when you are able to get back on your feet, please keep charities in your thoughts and support them where you can.”
is needed now More than ever
Hardship is demanding new ways of supporting young people. 70 devices have been generously donated to young people from local businesses and communities to ensure young people can stay updated and in touch with their support workers at the charity.
1625ip launched an emergency appeal on April 7th to ask for donations and funding for young people who are isolating, which included essential food and toiletries. The charity is still keen to receive these donations for these young people, as well as puzzles, books, and crafts.
The charity is incredibly grateful to the generosity from local businesses and communities, who are helping young people who have experienced homelessness feel cared for and safe.
Going forward, 1625ip will continue to support young people into independence, however the employment prospects for 16 to 25 year old’s will be particularly hard hit as a result of this crisis. I
n addition to this, the mental health and wellbeing of young people is at risk of deteriorating. Funding for charities has been impacted which could otherwise provide resources for emotional support.
They are appealing for funding and encourage anyone to visit their website and look at their activities and challenges that everyone can get involved with to raise money. Contact [email protected] to learn more.
